My relationship with media

I remember my childhood. My father or mother wakes up 3 a.m. because of my wishes which is related to watching tv. At that time, I am really enjoyed with music channels. I liked to singers and instead of sleep, I watched music videos. However, if I compare the my childhood period and my adolescence period, there is a huge distinction between them. When I started to high school which is a boarding school, I could not have time to watch tv. Our lessons were very difficult, so people should focus on them to be a successful. I was back my home in weekend. These periods, I had an opportunity to watch tv. However, after fifteen, I never sit the armchair in order to watch specific programmes. If I have free time, sometimes I concentrate on TV. The reasons of it, I think very reasonable. Firstly, the quality of media does not seem useful, and they do not have good features. For example, in mornings, many TV channels’ programmes are related to love, marriage, etc. Is it logical? Can people fall in love in TV? Can they marriage? The only purpose of owners is an increase in rating. Thus, they try to be stranger because society look at new, interesting things. Apart from this, magazine programmes. I can not say I never watch it. I know it is a waste of time but sometimes people need to watch this type of programmes in order to escape daily life’s stress, responsibility. Finally, sometimes, I watch eenage soap-operas. I think, they are funny. May be i like it because, they are related to my age period, and its problems, amusements.

Comparison between different Turkish media outlets

As we watch, in Turkey, they are a great deal of television channels. One of them is TRT which strictly depend on government. I think, this TV channels is affected by today’s Turkish government. Actually, I have not an enough time to watch tv. However, according to my general idea, infrastructure of TRT has started to change. Of course, it is controversial but I think, religion, and ecclesiastical view have become more dominant in TRT’s programmes’ characteristic. When the other channel’s started their broadcast, TRT’s watchers have already decreased. They have watched other channels but in today, I think, TRT address some part of society, so people, who think like in TRT’s programmes, can focus on this channel. As i said before, religious views are dominated in TRT, if we compare the past. However, because these programmes can affect people who, have a same opinion or different opinion in a different way, their broadcast’s content is not very obvious in terms of ecclesiastical perspective. I made this comment because if we look at the Samanyolu, we can see religious domination more obviously. It is Fetullah Gülen’s channel. It reflects his opinion. It is very ridiculous, but they exploit religion in cartoons. Apart from this, STAR TV is another channel which is problematic. I think, Cem Uzan who is the owner of Star Tv, used his channel for politics. He tried to gain more vote by using media. He did his propaganda with a little bit restriction. Some times RTÜK interfered it, but it did not continue for a long time.

Tabloidization of News Media

In this part of the blog, i want to mention about restriction of channels’ broadcast and its effects on media. In Turkey, RTÜK busies with this limitation. As the reading of take home essay states, it controls content to a far greater extent than media structure, concentration, increasing market mechanisms. In addition to this, it determines programmes’ quality and which programmes are against the state. It seems reasonable and also useful for infrastructure of states and also viewers because with the help of RTÜK, people can inform about news or other programmes’ contents accurately. However, i think, in Turkey, RTÜK does not play an effective role on media because i think the aim of it should not be protecting state’s structure. As I argued before, it should also interest in quality of programmes. We can not see this characteristic of RTÜK, in Turkey. I look at them, a great deal of programmes seem meaningless and functionless. They do not contribute to development of states, people’s education and general knowledge. For this reason, i think RTÜK can take an insignificant place in broadcast. It may help protection of states, but when it does this duty, it does not help any personal development. On account of this reason, it does not help enhancement of states.

SPEECH TO RADIO-TELEVISION NEWS DIRECTOR ASSOCIATION

“..we are going to mention about the new terrorism news. In Turkey, fifteen soldier dead… Ok, now, we have a mini break. After this break, we will continue to inform you what happened in our country and also world..” Then, the advertisements start. Many of us could have met to these types of programmes or videos. Especially in our country, we can easily see this situation and its effects. When i think about this subject, firstly i ask myself “why this happen occurs?” because news, which is the part of broadcast of television or radio, makes up huge part of our life. We know lots of event which are political, social or may be economical, point of view, interesting or funny scenes by watching news. These types of programs are the part of daily life because news consists of daily life and they reflect our life, conflicts and issues. However, when we watch news, we can not focus on them easily. A great deal of different factors affect this situation such as the quality of news, advertisement etc. The directors let advertising to show themselves in television or radio. In this case, many people can not think that continue to watch television because advertisement may be related to the us, may be say something relating to our life such as buy them because etc. etc. … etc. , but these lead to an decrease in concentration. I believe that, many directors lose many watchers owing to the aim of making profit or an increase channels or programmes’ stable profit by using advertisements.

Plug in Drug

When i read Plug in Drug, firstly i recall my best friend’s brother who called Doruk. He is eight years old now and he is hyperactive boy. When he was three or four, his mother usually let him to watch cartoons and some videos which are related to the songs. He had really interested in these programmes and watched them approximately four or five hours in a day. After a while, his family recognized that, he has started to spent time on his own. Thus, he did not communicate with their family and did not play with his toys. He generally insisted to watch his favourite television programmes regularly instead of explain his feeling and ideas. When his family worried about his state of mind, they went to a hospital. Doctor suspected to his behaviour and said that; Doruk can be autistic. As a result of some determination, the problem is revealed. He was not autistic but he had a serious communication problem owing to an addiction to television. This case also led to some unreasonable and ridiculous attitudes which are indicated themselves in Doruk’s life frequently. His family has taken crucial precaution in order to restrict his free time which is belongs to watch television. As a result of it, now, he is mentally and physically fine. However, if his family would not give enough important to alteration which shows themselves in Doruk’s behaviour, he will probably have serious mental problem. As we can see in this example, despite to the fact that television seems like funny machine which enjoys us, it plays a major role in shaping of our psychology and life style. Moreover, it influences our mental health, and communication skills, especially in play age and childhood period. I think that, the problems are not only related to the family bonds. Of course the relationships and commitments are significant factors in family life. However, under the difficult conditions, if the members of family are healthy, they can talk and solve their problems or share their opinions. I accept that, television damages their bonds and it reduces communication between family members. Hence it is harmful. On the other hand, i believe that, if they want, they can again eat lunch together, go to theatre etc. with no dependency to television. Because they are still conscious and they can aware of what happened inside and outside of the family. Conversely, as in other side of Doruk’s example, if the addiction becomes incurable and the member of family deprived of his mental health, they have no opportunity to regulate what happened before and their relationships.

Reality TV

I think the main question which sould be asked is why realty shows are very popular in many parts of society. When i critic this quesion’s answer, i can see two different perspective.

On the one hand, people watch these tv programes because they shows themselves in tv. The player of realirt shows are not artists or actirist. It is not movie or any structred programme. Players are ordinary people and no construction in shows. They indicates who they are and how they live? But it is? If the answer is yes, we can understand easily why these tv shows’ reytings so high. Viewers may probably see themselves in tv and they makes a correlation between tv shows and their life. Comparing the other tv shows, these types of programmes reflects the people’s life more directly. Watchers look at their life outside but in the similar window. On the other hand, do the players shows themselves literally in tv? I think, the answer is obvious. However, a great deal of people can not see it. The players are kept under the control by tv programme produccers owing to the fact that producers want to gain more reyting than other tv channels. They shape players caracteristic and events in the house and of course they should regulate this in accordance with real life. All person and perspective should be parallel in viewers’ life becasue reality shows takes a crucial place in people’s life and people see these programmes is a kind of repercussion of their real life. Due to the this reason, they watch them more and more. However, as i explained in second view, we can not say that there is no fiction in reality shows. Yes, they are! And people are affected these fiction very deeply. In brief, i think; reality shows do not reflect real life, the effects and new concepts’s consequences of these tv programmes reflects society and affects them deeply.

Pursuit of Happiness

In this film, family seems that parents love each other, despite to the fact that they have not perfect relationships. Their problems usually related to their budget. Hence, they usually face economic issues. The father of the family tries to regulate this situation and provide better economic conditions to his family to solve their main problem. He invents a machine which is related to the medicine and makes an effort to sell it. He goes hospital and talks many doctor. As understanding this, he is very hard-working, conscious and altruistic person. However, his wife is so demanding person. She does not consider her husband works, and does not give any importance to them. This case leads to an increase in inquietude and miser ability between family members and general atmosphere of home. Therefore, their marriage suffers from these circumstances. I think, it affects all family members. However, the most important person who is damaged form these happens is child. Ending of the disagreements, mother leaves her family. When i watched the movie, i hope that the general situation will change and become better. However, parents choice the divorce instead of finding a solution to their problem. Mother did not return the home. As a result of this, she is less interested with her son. All the responsibilities which are related to child are under the control of father. He brings up his son through his self-scarifying. This case would eventually cause existence of more ambitious father. By considering it, he works permanently to earn money and provide bright future to his son. In this period, mother rarely connects just her son. For being successful and acquiring high position, father makes an effort about having a good job. At the ending of his experiences and his perfect communication skill, he becomes an important and wealth businessman. I think the role of the family in this film and also purpose of the film is to give us an idea about importance of commitment between family members and exhibit how children are influenced by the problems which are taken a place between parents.

Tiny Smiling Daddy

As we talk in class, this story focuses on the relationship between family members, especially father and her daughter. Kitty who is in adolescence period has some difficulties in her sexual preferences. These difficulties and her preference’s outcomes reflect on her family. But what is important point in this reflection? Kitty or her father? I think, in this story, her father afraid of society’s reaction. A great deal of people do not like different person owing to the fact that they have some general view points and person who live in a extraordinary way according to other people’s inflexible approach usually behaves unacceptable. Kitty is one of them. Hence, her father wants to defend himself from society. According to his idea, may be his neighborhood or relatives can blame him because of his daughter. Why? The answer is simple; in that she is unusual and she may affect others negatively. Apart from this approach, he may hold responsible himself for his daughter choices because these choices can be related to the bringing up style and childhood period. He may suspect that his wrong treatments lead to an increase in communication gap between his family members. I think, all of them are possible. However, everybody is free and has some rights about their preference because their choices shape their life.

WHERE ARE YOU GOING? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?

I think, the interesting point of this story is usage of symbols. Writer has shaped the words to represent many various things. These different approaches contribute to story’s infrastructure positively. As wee can see the story, main concept is related to the adolescence period, some confusions which depend on this period and its effects. The girl who called Connie has lots of conflict about her life style, age and character. In adolescence period, her general approach and points of view has changed gradually in that she passed a new term which is different from childhood period. Writer has utilized the door for representing transmission form the girl to woman. Phone cord is used in the story instead of umbilical cord. Apart from these two symbols, some numbers also illustrates another meaning of sexual intercourse. I think, these representations make the story more intriguing and attractive.

Music Piracy

MUSIC PIRACY

Everybody accept that music piracy is illegal and morally wrong. However, in today’s world a great deal of people do not give any importance to it. They usually want to obtain music cd or films by using cheaper way. On account of this reason, they download music on the internet without paying any money or buy cd which is not an original. It is a familiar problem in this world. Research indicates that this case related to the people’s age. Especially, teenagers take an interest buying or downloading using illegal ways. Older people who are generally 40-60 years old less interested this situation. I assert that the reason for this is not related to the improvement of people’s awareness. They may more conscious than their teenage period. However the main reason is their new life style. In this period, they usually interested in their job and family. These two factors affect their life. Responsibilities and difficulties restricted social life and fun. Therefore they have not enough time for entertainment in terms of watching movie or buying a new singer’s music cd.
