Tabloidization of News Media

In this part of the blog, i want to mention about restriction of channels’ broadcast and its effects on media. In Turkey, RTÜK busies with this limitation. As the reading of take home essay states, it controls content to a far greater extent than media structure, concentration, increasing market mechanisms. In addition to this, it determines programmes’ quality and which programmes are against the state. It seems reasonable and also useful for infrastructure of states and also viewers because with the help of RTÜK, people can inform about news or other programmes’ contents accurately. However, i think, in Turkey, RTÜK does not play an effective role on media because i think the aim of it should not be protecting state’s structure. As I argued before, it should also interest in quality of programmes. We can not see this characteristic of RTÜK, in Turkey. I look at them, a great deal of programmes seem meaningless and functionless. They do not contribute to development of states, people’s education and general knowledge. For this reason, i think RTÜK can take an insignificant place in broadcast. It may help protection of states, but when it does this duty, it does not help any personal development. On account of this reason, it does not help enhancement of states.

So are you saying that what contributes to the tabloidization of news (and maybe media in general) in Turkey is RTUK? Or at least they shoudl have a responsibility to ensure that tabloidization does not occur and there is a quality media? I did not understand your point exactly.
