A Rose for Emily

CHARACTER OF EMILY GRIERSON

I focus on the A Rose for Emily’s main character who called Emily Grierson. I assert that her characteristic and behaviour make up the infrastructure of the story. She has a brilliant intelligence in that she had a well organized murder plan. (I suppose that Emily killed Homer Barron.) Apart from this, she is assertive, and also her behaviour indicates her self-confidence. For instance; she went to drug store and bought a poison without any hesitation. She sought very decided when she was looking at the seller’s eyes directly. Another example is her attitudes during the meeting period which is related to the paying taxes. She did not give importance to authority, ignorantly did not any answer to their question. I think that both examples also show us Emily has an imperturbable emotional state.
